Racism in Power Rangers Megaforce Casting?
With the casting process for Power Rangers Megaforce still under way, one model who auditioned for one Ranger role named Sundai Love shared her experience about her audition on Twitter. I quote:
Racism is an old issue on Power Rangers as the first series, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers had an African-American to play the Black Ranger and an Asian to play the Yellow Ranger. After the departure of Walter Jones (Black Ranger) and Thuy Trang (Yellow Ranger), they decided to "fix" it later on by switching the races for the colors when the two were replaced in the series.
Telling the actress flat out in front of her that they can't cast another African-American? Well that's indeed quite racist of the producers and casting directors as we had two Power Rangers seasons that has at least two actors with Asian ethnicity as part of their team, namely Time Force and RPM.
